FMTC’s Product Feed allows users to tap into structured monetized product data. Create a powerful product discovery on your site with the ability to search by merchant, brand, or category. Below are frequently asked questions regarding our Product Feed.

What is a Product Feed?

A product feed is a structured dataset that contains detailed information about products—such as names, prices, images, descriptions, and identifiers like GTIN or SKU. These feeds are widely used in ecommerce and affiliate marketing to power product discovery, comparison tools, and monetization strategies.

At FMTC, product feeds are normalized across multiple affiliate networks, allowing publishers and developers to access consistent, high-quality product data through a single API.

How the FMTC Product Feed API Works

The FMTC Product Feed API provides access to millions of products from thousands of merchants in one standardized format. Instead of integrating with multiple affiliate networks individually, users can query a single endpoint and retrieve clean, normalized data.

Key Benefits:

  • Unified access to multiple affiliate networks
  • Normalized product attributes across merchants
  • Scalable API for large datasets
  • Easier integration for developers and publishers

This makes it ideal for building:

  • Product comparison engines
  • Deal and coupon sites
  • Content-driven affiliate sites
  • Shopping search experiences

GTIN vs SKU: What’s the Difference?

Understanding product identifiers is essential when working with product feeds.

GTIN (Global Trade Item Number)

  • Universal identifier
  • Consistent across all retailers
  • Best for matching identical products across merchants

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

  • Merchant-specific identifier
  • Unique only within a single retailer
  • Not reliable for cross-merchant matching

Why It Matters

If you’re building a product comparison or aggregation tool, GTIN is the preferred identifier because it allows you to group identical products across different merchants. SKU is useful for internal tracking but less effective for broader integrations.

Common Product Feed Questions

What data is included in a product feed?

A typical product feed includes:

  • Product name and description
  • Price and availability
  • Image URLs
  • Merchant and brand information
  • Product identifiers (GTIN, SKU)
  • Affiliate tracking links

How often is product feed data updated?

Update frequency varies by merchant and network, but FMTC continuously ingests and refreshes product data to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Does FMTC’s Product Feed include inventory status?

The field “Available” indicates whether the product is currently available for purchase or out of stock. This value can be updated in the network by the merchant. FMTC updates the Product Feed daily to ensure that all fields are current.

How large are product feeds?

Product feeds can range from thousands to millions of records depending on the merchant. Using an API instead of static downloads helps manage this scale efficiently.

Which networks have product feeds on FMTC?

Not all networks supported in the Deal Feed are supported in the Product Feed. FMTC currently supports these networks:

  • Ascend (Pepperjam)
  • Awin
  • Commission Factory
  • CJ
  • Impact
  • LinkConnector
  • Rakuten
