Meet Heather Moore, data processing shift lead at FMTC!

How long have you worked at FMTC? What is your current role?

I joined the team in September 2019 as a data processor. I became a shift lead in August 2021.

What do you like most about your job?

The best parts of my job are the people I work with and the comfort of getting to work from home. Even though the position is remote, the work community is fantastic. Everyone is helpful and courteous. We genuinely enjoy problem-solving and helping each other.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Do not be afraid to ask questions! Asking for help is a powerful resource. There was a huge learning curve when I assumed the position of shift lead. Taking in so much new information can be overwhelming, but this team is so amazing; they have made me love the chaos. We work so well together. I appreciate that more than anything else.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I enjoy making memories with my family. I have five children — four girls and one boy — and they keep me busy. We love outdoor movies, s’mores around the firepit, and game nights. There is never a dull moment in our crazy house. I love it!

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I love video games. I am a child of the ’80s, so it’s built into my core. I am pretty geeky, too. Sci-fi shows and movies are my favorites! Star Trek rules in my house.

Where’s your favorite place in the world?

Honestly, there is no better place than home. We have a huge farmhouse with a couple of acres, too many animals, and a never-ending list of things we need to do. It’s my happy place.

What’s your motto or personal mantra?

Be patient, be kind, and be thoughtful. Everyone needs a little light to help them get through. I try to look for the positive in every situation, and I do my best not to hold onto the negative. Life is too short!

What are three words that best describe you?

Fun-loving, charismatic, and quirky (I asked my family for this one).

What is one thing you can’t live without?

My family and music! I could not live without either of those things. They are my favorite comforts. My mother passed away a few years ago, and my greatest peace has been through the music she always played. I put it on while cooking, and it’s like she’s in the kitchen with me. I’m incredibly grateful for that.

What is your hometown?

I was born on a military base in California and raised in North Carolina. Hickory is my hometown. I left 20 years ago to seek a larger city with more opportunities, but it will always be home for me.
