Creativity inspires fresh ideas and helps you generate new content more easily. If you’re stuck in a rut and need a new perspective, try these simple ideas to get new ideas flowing. Be sure to write down your goals and intentions to stay focused as well. Here are a few other tips to help boost your creative capacity:
Surround yourself with inspiration
What inspires you personally? Create an atmosphere that fosters inspiring and purposeful thoughts. Not only will this aid in creativity, but it can also increase a feeling of happiness. Whether it’s a clean office, a photo of your kids, a quote from an inspiring role model or something else, surround yourself with these objects every day.
Establish your “why”
Don’t merely establish your “why” once and move on, but remember it may change or evolve. Most of us have things we do every day without thinking about it. Why do we do them? At FMTC, “That’s how we’ve always done it” is not a good reason.
Is there a process in place that is hindering you from reaching your goals more efficiently? Does it take more time and effort than it’s worth? Don’t be afraid to take a step back and re-evaluate the “why” behind what you do. Having a purpose or passion for your actions can inspire valuable thought.
Give yourself a mental break
Focusing for a lengthy period can lead you to the point of no forward acceleration. Mental breaks are essential for renewing your enthusiasm and stimulating the flow of ideas. There are a few things you can do at your desk to rest your mind. For example, some ways to give yourself a mental break are 60 seconds of meditation, a 5-minute nap, or stretching.
Get out of the office
Make a habit of spending time outside each day, even if it’s in small blocks. Getting outdoors, even just to walk the dog or sit in the sun, can help you return to work with a clear mind.
If you work from home, take your laptop to a coffee shop or hit the gym. Physical activity can even boost your mental performance — it’s not just about getting your body in shape, but your mind as well.
Fuel up first thing in the day
Get your day off to an energetic start. Coffee is a must for many people. However, if you aren’t a caffeine drinker (or if you crave additional energy or motivation) try putting on your favorite song or motivational podcast, attend an early yoga class or cook a healthy breakfast.
Whatever inspires you, take these beginning moments to set a creative and upbeat tone for your day.
