Thanks for checking out this week’s edition of affiliate marketing news roundup! I’ve collected some interesting and timely affiliate marketing news pieces and blog posts from around the interwebs.
The text that accompanies each article is a quote from the respective article/post.
As always, if you have an affiliate marketing news story that you’d like us to share, there is a submission link at the bottom of this post.
“For those of you who haven’t heard, I am expecting my first baby (it’s a girl!) and will be going on maternity leave soon. She’s due March 5th and my scheduled last day is March 2nd, which may be cutting it close if she decides to make her debut early. If that happens, I’ll be taking my maternity leave early so I wanted to give everyone a heads up.”
“We know our industry can be guilty of using lots of jargon, which can be confusing when you’re starting out in the world of Affiliate Marketing. Following on from our guide to Affiliate Marketing for Beginners we’ve created our very own Jargon Buster which breaks down the key terms used across the Affiliate Marketing industry.”

“Seasons and holidays can inspire creative content that grabs attention and remains relevant year after year. When it comes to influencer marketing, these are great opportunities to launch campaigns promoting your brand amidst the frenzy of seasonal content every holiday. If it’s a popular blog or social media account, your brand could gain a lot of exposure with content found by people searching up gifts, crafts or recipes relating to the season or holiday.
Valentine’s Day is coming up, so I’ll use this holiday as an example. There are so many ways to build content and feature your products around this holiday, regardless of your brand’s niche.”

“The 2018 Winter Olympics kicked off this week in Pyeongchang, South Korea. While most people viewing the events see amazing human feats, incredible opening ceremonies and international politics sprinkled in the mix, affiliate marketers see many opportunities for editorial content related to the Olympics. Many affiliates have jumped on the chance to produce content that focuses on aspects of the winter games and also allows for timely promotional opportunities.”
“The online market is a busy place, with seemingly endless information available at customer’s fingertips, which makes it even easier to get lost. This is why we see more and more customers preferring personalised experiences, from personalised products to one-on-one communications. Many brands have recently introduced chatbots as one way to allow such a communication and with recent development in technology these have become more intelligent and customisable. By the end of 2018, Forbes Magazine sees chatbots becoming a norm in the online marketing space in order for brands to offer customers a large-scale yet personalised experience.”
“In 2017, we continued to see the rise of online mattress companies. Like a domino effect, one after another fell into the ShareASale network and many were able to settle into the ShareASale PowerRank. A month into 2018, we’ve seen a number of new apparel and accessories brands, but our prediction is that this year’s top category will be Home products.”
“This year’s Affiliate Summit Europe took place at the InterContinental Hotel, O2. The two day event was packed with knowledge sharing seminars and industry networking opportunities.
On the second day of the event EMEA Managing Director Helen Southgate shared her thoughts on what we mean by influence. In her session she discussed the rise of the influencer and how influencers should fit into the affiliate marketing mix. The session then went onto to discuss how we should remunerate affiliates before closing with top tips on how to work with affiliates going forward.”

“Performance partnerships took some giant steps forward in 2017. Many brands stepped up their efforts in building mutually beneficial relationships based on the performance model to drive growth in all areas of their business, from marketing and sales to business development.”
“The deadline for new stringent privacy regulations in Europe is fast approaching on May 25, 2018. But many US companies are still in the process of assuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and some are still not sure how the new regulations impact them.
Let’s be clear. GDPR is being imposed by the European Union (EU) to protect the privacy of its citizens. However, its far-reaching nature will affect any company – even those in the US – that collects, stores and processes any personal information of an EU resident.”

“Despite receiving criticism for its lack of flair these days, affiliate marketing is an innovative digital marketing channel. Innovative in a sense that it has helped to launch a large number of consumer facing concepts like site abandonment, voucher-coding, loyalty shopping and to a large extent comparison shopping, all of which are now accepted parts of our online world.
What a shame then that affiliate marketing hasn’t brought that same level of innovation to the way it does business. Affiliate marketing has powered innovation, yet failed to deliver that same innovation to its core product, which has left it beset by inefficient practices that lack automation and slow down the way affiliate marketers do business.”
“Before you dive into this guide, let’s make a couple assumptions: First, your brand is already using influencer marketing. Second, you’re happy with where it’s headed and are looking to scale this acquisition channel. That’s where an influencer marketing platform enters the picture.”
